Ceramic Wall Sculpture – Cognac, Copper & Golden Reflections

Drapée Cognac is a ceramic wall sculpture shaped entirely by hand in my studio in Portugal.

Starting from a slab of stoneware, the clay is folded, lifted and shaped to create an organic relief with deep, flowing movement. After firing, what once appeared soft and almost textile-like becomes permanently frozen in ceramic.

Its glossy reactive glaze reveals an exceptionally rich palette of cognac, amber, tobacco brown and copper, layered with cooler nuances of smoky taupe and subtle plum reflections.

Within the folds and across the raised surfaces, small crystalline details with golden and metallic flashes emerge spontaneously during firing. Depending on the light, some areas appear almost liquid, while others evoke aged leather, heated copper or a beautifully weathered metal surface.

Light becomes an integral part of the artwork: throughout the day, Cognac shifts from warm and amber-toned to deeper, smokier and more metallic.

The movement of the glaze, its nuances and crystalline details are created during firing and can never be reproduced exactly. Drapée Cognac is therefore a truly one-of-a-kind piece.

Its pronounced folds create a true three-dimensional relief, casting different shadows depending on the direction of the light.

INSTALLATION

Drapée Cognac is designed to be installed directly on the wall using its integrated opening.

The wall fixing is intentionally left visible, becoming a subtle detail within the composition, in keeping with the spirit of Clay’Milie wall sculptures.

The screw and wall anchor should be selected according to the type of wall on which the piece will be installed.

IN YOUR INTERIOR

Its warm, mineral palette pairs particularly beautifully with warm whites, ecru and textured walls, natural or dark woods, travertine, stone, linen, and brass or aged-metal details.

Displayed on its own, Drapée Cognac becomes a sculptural focal point.

It can also be paired with other Drapées to create a larger wall installation.

HANDCRAFTED

Every Clay’Milie creation is individually shaped, glazed and finished by hand in my studio in Portugal.

Subtle irregularities, traces of the making process and variations in the material are an integral part of the handcrafted process, making every piece truly unique.

The glaze decides. I never do it the same way again.

HANDMADE DRAPED CERAMICS: THE VARIATIONS THAT MAKE EACH PIECE IRREPLACEABLE

I shape each piece by hand in my studio in Portugal. The draping, stroke by stroke, captures a movement in the clay. The glaze, meanwhile, reacts to the firing in a way that even I cannot fully control.

It is precisely this that guarantees that no one, anywhere, will have exactly the same piece.

The sculptural draping is Clay'Milie's recognizable visual signature.

Each fold, each relief is the result of a unique and unrepeatable gesture.

The variations in glaze, color, gloss, and gradation are unique to this firing process.

Does the piece really look as good as it does in the photo?

I’ve taken care to photograph each piece in lighting that’s as close to real life as possible. The dimensions are accurate, and you can see how the pieces look in real interiors in the gallery. If you’re not sure, do drop me a line on WhatsApp — I’ll get back to you within 24 hours.

What if the part is damaged upon delivery?

I prepare each parcel using reinforced packaging designed for ceramics. In the unlikely event of damage upon receipt, please contact me within 48 hours with photos, and I will find a solution.

Can I return my order?

One-off pieces are original creations that cannot be replicated. I encourage you to ask me any questions you may have before confirming your order — I’m available on WhatsApp to help you choose with confidence.
