Komari — Sculptural Yunomi Cup

A handmade ceramic tasting cup inspired by Japanese tea rituals, organic forms and quiet everyday moments.

Komari was imagined as a quiet object meant to be held slowly.

Entirely handmade in black clay, this sculptural yunomi-style cup features a deep metallic glaze filled with subtle speckles and storm-like reflections that shift beautifully depending on the light.

Its rounded shape and soft proportions were designed to sit naturally in the hands, creating a comforting tactile experience during tea, matcha or simple daily rituals.

Minimal yet expressive, Komari moves freely between:
– tea cup
– matcha vessel
– tasting cup
– decorative ritual object

Its dark reflective surface and mineral texture give the piece an atmospheric presence somewhere between functional ceramic and sculptural object.

Each cup is individually shaped and glazed by hand in my studio in Portugal, making every piece unique and impossible to reproduce identically.
